Because Paul and I took a cooking class today and we ate a LOT.
Paul and I frequent an Italian restaurant, Siragusa’s. Every time we go we kept saying we would like to take a cooking class from them, because they have delicious food!
This is the owner and chef of Siragusa’s.
Paul talked to him and asked him if he would make cannoli for dessert. He said he would, so we immediately signed up for the class.
This is so delicious. With all the recipes I have found and tried, this one has different ingredients and wouldn’t have thought about putting them together. Nope. Not sharing the recipe 🙂 I will bring it to family functions and social gatherings and have the best dessert there!
I started out this Monday morning with a run. It was beautiful with the sun coming out, which was really nice, but it was so frigid out, I only went .5 miles.
Today we went downtown to the Nauvoo Cafe.
The lobby of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. This is a beautiful building. I haven’t been here since Paul and I had our wedding dinner. We had our dinner in the Jade room not the cafe :). Thinking back, they served the best salmon!
A statue of Joseph Smith in front of the cafe.
Mmm…delicious.
Inside the cafe was as decorative as the lobby. Very beautiful building.
We always have a good time during our lunches.
These sandwiches were VERY delicious. The left one, turkey and cranberry, was mom and dad’s. Aaron and I had the grilled cheese. He had his with bacon. We will definitely be back for these. These sandwiches were worth the drive!
We ate dessert at the cafe. We tried a cinnamon roll. Not very good. They looked really good with the 2 inches of cream cheese icing. The icing was wonderful, but the roll was disappointing. I will try something different next time.
Peach pie. My mother and I wanted to try this one. Again, disappointed. The lunch was great, but we chose wrong with the desserts. But, that won’t stop us from coming back, we will have to try different desserts!
The temperatures in the morning have been in the 30’s and it has been freezing! So cold I may have talked myself out of running a few times. So I need to find something warmer to run in. A great excuse to get out and find another running jacket 🙂
I found this! It’s a New Balance asymmetrical 3/4 zip pullover.
It’s kind of hard to see the zipper, but it’s on the side instead of in the middle.
This jacket makes me look very slim 🙂 I love it! I can’t wait for my marathon this Saturday to wear it!
Went for my run this morning and look who was out? It’s hard to see them, but there were two antelopes enjoying the same field I was running in. .
It was a beautiful morning with clear skies and 44′. A nice day for a run and harvest some honey.
Out of the two hives we have, the big hive has been fun to watch. I don’t know why. Maybe because there are thousands of bees in this hive and only a few hundred in the smaller hive?
Anyway, the end of the year is here and time to harvest our honey. Our honey is in the top box, so we need to remove the top box and shake all the bees out and into the other two boxes.
Lighting the smoker to encourage the bees to move from the top box to the bottom boxes.
This is what a 4 year old does to keep busy 🙂
We have a lot of good frames of delicious dark honey.
Still entertaining himself 🙂
The hive has been reduced back down to a two box hive. The bottom box still has brood and the top box is full of honey for the bees to eat throughout the summer.
A few of the frames.
Look at all that honey!
We cut out the comb from a few of the frames.
Put them into bags. Taped them onto the computer monitor arm 🙂 . Cut a tiny hole out of the bottom of the bag and let them drip.
We let the honey drip into a double sieve. The bottom sieve is finer than the top sieve to catch the wax that escaped from the bags.
The honey drips from the sieve into the bucket that has a spout that will make it easier to drain into jars.
No two hives are the same. Every hive varies in color and had has different tasting honey. This hive has been producing dark, thick, delicious tasting honey. I can’t wait to bottle it up!
It’s time to increase my mileage. I need to start running long runs and increase my miles again to 25-30 miles a week.
For our Monday lunch, we went to El Pollo Loco. They did make my wrap a vegetarian, the second time :). You can’t go wrong with avocado, vegetables and cheese in a wrap! They did have issues in their restaurant that day. Being an owner, I totally understand! I guess we all have some sort of issue that pops up during the day while running a quick service restaurant!
After lunch we drove down to Vineyard. Vineyard? Yeah, I didn’t know there was a city, Vineyard either. We were on our way to get dessert and we saw this Puppy Store. We had to stop in and see what it as all about.
This store is full of puppies. You can hold and play with as many puppies as you want to. For as long as you want to!
To my surprise, they had a Havanese! I don’t see many of these around. Charlie was a Havanese and we miss dearly. I had to hold her. I so desperately want to get another puppy, but it’s still too hard after Charlie. Some day.
We went next door for some ice cream at Brooker’s.
Yes, This is their work uniform.
The owner of the store. 🙂 They make their ice cream in house and it is really delicious.
Aaron said it reminded him of Ziggy Piggy! You, know, Bill and Ted’s Excellent adventure? This is why it’s so fun to be with my brother.
The weather was beautiful. 70′. Cooler than it has been so it made the run easier and very enjoyable. I’m at a 11 minute mile and still working on getting my speed back!
For lunch we went to Shake Shack. A new restaurant in town and we had to try it. They were packed with a line out the door! I guess everyone needed to try it as well.
I wasn’t going to take a picture of my lunch, but it’s memorable. This place doesn’t have a selection for a vegetarian. The only sandwich without meat was a ‘shroom burger. It’s a cheese filled fried mushroom. I’m not into mushrooms so I I told my brother I’m good with fries and part of his shake.
He ordered me the mushroom burger anyway. Which was very nice of him. When he ordered, the cashier warned him two times this sandwich doesn’t have meat 🙂 I thought that was funny!
I should have taken pictures of our lunch. My brother said his hamburger was just ok. All the burgers were a little larger than a slider 🙂 He said the french fries were ore ida fries, and the shake…. This is what I should have had a picture for. The shake was 3 inches tall! The cup was three inches tall and the shake did not go over the rim.
We had a good time and lots of laughs at lunch as always.
I asked Aaron if he would go back. This was his face. I don’t think he will be back. It was fun to try something new.
With only a 3 inch shake we needed something sweet. We picked up Eli early from school and went into Provo to my favorite dessert shop, Taste.
I love their bathroom faucet 🙂
We are back together! I miss my little boy when we do our Monday lunches.
This place makes their own chocolate. Eli is looking at the chocolate production next door.
The menu. All the chocolate items are made with their chocolate.
We ordered molten lava cake with raspberry sauce.
S’more Taste Style. Layers of cake, graham cracker crumble, chocolate custard, strawberries with a toasted home-made marshmallow. Arron was so impressed he wants to recreate this one! This one was excellent!
Brownie with ice cream. The brownie is why we frequent this shop. I think it’s the best dessert on the menu. Making their chocolate next door makes a huge difference in the taste and it is truly a wonderful brownie.
As always it was a fun Monday and a great start for the week!
Brutal run. This next marathon is going to kill me.
We drive to moms house to pick up mom and Aaron and head out for lunch. We go to the prison 🙂 a lot. Every once in a while we try something new. Today we went to Hires Big H. They have one of the best veggie burgers in the valley.
After lunch we go out and find a new dessert place to try. Today we tried Cinnaholic gourmet cinnamon rolls.
We tried the cookie monster. It was a warm cinnamon roll, with vanilla icing, topped with cookie dough crumbles and drizzled with chocolate.
Look at Eli’s face. It was delicious! This is one of the best desserts we have had. I will definitely be back.
On our drive back, it hit 104′
After lunch we head outside to play. Either playing in water or the sandbox. Since it was over 100′, Eli chose to play in the water.
After dropping Eli off at school I went for a run.
Today is my short run. Almost ready for my 1/2 marathon.
Came home and did a little decorating for fall.
Sat down an did a little work.
Picked up Eli and Aaron to go Christmas shopping. Yes, Christmas shopping. I need to get this done by the end of the month so I can enjoy the remaining of the year. The last two months seem to fly by.
Eli is still into cars and trucks. The bigger the better!
He also loves to sing. he is the loudest singer in the primary! One day he may get something like this for Christmas. All of Sam’s club could hear him sing. He had the best time!
